Exemplary Leaders in Higher Education

HETL Country Directors are educational leaders who represent HETL to the global higher education community in their countries/regions. HETL Country Directors help promote the mission, vision, and values of HETL around the world. They represent HETL’s interests in their countries/regions as well as represent the interests of their own countries/regions to HETL. Together, HETL aims to transform higher education for the benefit of all.

Committees

The country director committees focus on those strategic areas important to the association. The Executive Committee provides strategic planning and direction to the Country Director Board. The other committees work on operational planning, goals, and objectives. Each committee chair reports to the Executive Committee.

Eastern Region

Professor Humphrey Oborah (www.komborah.com) (www.humphreyoborah.com) is an advocate of Talent and is the current President of the African Federation Gifted and Talented (www.giftedafrica.org) and founder of The African Talent University (www.africatalentuni.com). He advocates for, researches, and supports the Gifted and Talented people of Africa. His current research is in the use of modern technology in Gifted and Talent Testing HENCE Career Forecasting. As Country Director, Professor Oborah represents the nations of Burundi, DRC Congo, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

Ghana

Professor Eric F. Oteng-Abayie is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at KNUST, Ghana. He has experience in teaching, research, and management consulting. He has published articles in the areas of financial economics, macroeconomics, and energy, among others. His current research focuses on PFM and taxation, economic growth and development, energy and utility regulation, and macro-fiscal policy. He teaches courses in international economics, intermediate microeconomics, research methods in economics, and energy economics. He was the Head of Business School at Garden City University College, Kumasi, until April 2008. He is a chair and member to several committees in higher education, including curriculum development, online learning management systems (LMS) and technologies, and institutional and program accreditation. He serves on the Ghana Technical Education Commission (GTEC), formally the National Accreditation Board (NAB), as a subject matter expert in Economics and Business.

Namibia

Dr. Rakel Kavena SHALYEFU is an Associate Professor at the University of Namibia in the Department of Higher Education and Lifelong Learning and has been a Director at the Centre for Professional Development, Teaching and Learning Improvement for some years. She is an academic developer, a designer and developer of programs and educational resources. She holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Design and Distance Education from the Pennsylvania State University (USA), a Masters in Adult Education from the University of Massachusetts (USA), a postgraduate degree of Bachelor of Education (Honors) from UNISA, a Bachelor of Pedagogics from the University of Fort Hare (SA), a Certificate in Arbitration, Negotiation and Reconciliation and a Certificate in HIV/AIDS Counseling from the University of Namibia, a Certificate in Public Administration from the Polytechnic of Namibia, and a Diploma in Higher Education for Academic Developers from Rhodes University.

South Africa

Dr. Upasana Singh is the Academic Leader and a Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Information Systems and Technology at the University of KwaZulu Natal, Westville Campus, in Durban South Africa. She is also appointed as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the Victorian Institute of Technology, Australia. Her academic qualifications from South African-based Universities include a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of South Africa, a Masters and a B.Com Hons degree in Information Systems and Technology, from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and University of Natal respectively. She has over 15 years teaching experience in IT related subjects such as e-Commerce, IT Consulting, IT Strategy, Programming and Research Methodology. She has a keen interest in Educational Technologies and has served as lead researcher in a number of international research projects on Digital Teaching, Learning, and Assessment. Her research profile includes 8 Journal Papers, 5 Book Chapters and 15 Conference Papers in internationally accredited conferences.

Albania

Dr. Eglantina Hysa is Associate Professor of Economics at Epoka University where she teaches internationalization economy, development and growth, and microeconomics. Her research is focused on development economics, social aspects, and quality in higher education institutions. She is the author of many scientific publications including book chapters and technical reports, published in leading international journals, including Integration of Education, Sustainability,and Journal of Applied Economics. She is included as a Bologna System expert for higher education in many EU projects.

Bahrain

Dr. Diana Aljahromi is Director of the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership and is an assistant professor of Linguistics. She previously held the post of the Director of Quality Assurance and Accreditation Office at the University of Bahrain. She has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Sheffield, UK (2012); a Postgraduate Diploma in Academic Practice (PCAP) 2015, an MA in Applied English Language Studies (Honors) (2003) from the University of Bahrain, and a BA in English Language and Literature (Honors) (1995) from the University of Bahrain. Dr. Diana has received a number of awards (Most Distinguished Teacher, 2003; Bahrain e-Content Award, 2005). She is also a fellow of the UK’s HEA. Her primary research interests focus on general linguistics, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, computational linguistics, corpus linguistics, second language writing, quality assurance, assessment, instructional technologies, e-learning, and faculty professional development.

Bangladesh

Dr. Mohammad Tareque Rahman is Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). He is also an Associate professor at the Department of General Education at the same university. Currently, Dr. Tareque is also working as a curriculum consultant for BRAC- the largest NGO of the world for their education program. He has a Ph.D. in Higher Education (policy and management) from the University of Queensland, Australia; an Educational Specialists Degree (EDS) from UMass, Amherst and an MA in Educational Leadership and School Improvement from the University of Manchester. Dr. Tareque’s research interest includes higher education, teacher education, educational policy, school improvement, professional networking, and leadership.

Botswana

Dr. Tendai Douglas Svotwa is Senior Lecturer at Botho University, Graduate Studies, Botswana where he teaches and supervises postgraduate students. He is a seasoned banker, researcher and academic who holds a Ph.D. in Business Management from North-West University, Mafikeng, South Africa. Dr. Svotwa has worked in the corporate sector for more than 12 years and has been teaching in academia since 2009. Furthermore, he is a member of The European Academy of Management, Africa Academy of Management, International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association, South African Association of Public Administration and Management, and a lifetime member of the Golden Key International Honour Society. Douglas has presented at local and international conferences and has published in internationally refereed journals.  His research interests are in the fields of strategy, leadership, general management, entrepreneurship, family businesses and marketing management.

Brunei Darussalam

Dr. Lukman Raimi is Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship in the School of Business and Economics (SBE), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). Prior to joining the UBD, he was an Assistant Professor and the Chair of Entrepreneurship at the American University of Nigeria (AUN). Also, he was formerly the Coordinator of the Graduate Program in the School of Business & Entrepreneurship and the Director Centre for Entrepreneurship in AUN. He is an entrepreneurship educator trained at the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Ahmedabad, India under the World Bank-Step B Project. His publications are listed in Scopus, ResearchGate, Publons, and Google Scholar. He was honored with the Best Ph.D. Thesis Award for Faculty of Business and Law (2016), De Montfort University, Leicester UK. His paper titled “Corporate social responsibility, waqf system, and zakat system as a faith-based model for poverty reduction”, was awarded Highly Commendable Academic Paper by World Journal of Entrepreneurship, Management and Sustainable Development, Emerald Group Publishing Limited, UK. His research interests include entrepreneurship: social entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial/digital innovation, medical entrepreneurship, development economics, CSR and sustainability, SDGs, and family business.

Canada

Dr. Ahmet Su is currently working as a post-doctoral researcher for a project which aims to explore the distant education capacities of Turkish universities and the satisfaction levels of university students from their distant education experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. He previously worked at Akdeniz University where he completed his doctoral studies. Later, he conducted studies, designed, and taught courses at Afyon Kocatepe University. More recently, he worked at Mount Royal University as a Visiting Scholar in Calgary, Canada. He is currently based in Calgary and conducting studies on International and Comparative Higher Education.

China

Dr. Ying Liu has worked as an International Director of Higher Education (HE) and consultant making emerging responses to China’s educational reforms, as well as initiating actions in making changes to transnational higher education in China through teaching and learning leadership in collaborating with international qualifications awarding bodies. He has worked as an international project advisor for China’s Ministry of Education with a dedicated focus on internationalizing teaching and learning with Chinese characteristics.

Curacao

Dr. Sateesh Arja is a faculty and administrative member at Avalon University School of Medicine since 2007 and has served the university in various capacities. He is currently working as a professor of clinical skills and medical education and also serving as the chair of the medical education unit and the quality assurance committee. As executive dean, he is leading the curriculum development, developing and implementing academic policies, faculty development, and liaison with government officials. He plays a significant role in strategic planning and quality assurance activities by leading the quality assurance committee. he also oversees the selection of students and research activities.

Denmark

Ms. Tina Refning is an educator and instructor in the areas of high performance and talent development. She works with gifted adults with executive functioning problems related to perfectionism or underachievement. She works with parents to identify if their child is gifted and what to do about it. She consults with individuals, schools, and companies concerning the development of gifted and talented programs.

Ecuador

Dr. Haydeé Ramírez Lozada is a teacher-researcher at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador Sede Esmeraldas. She has contributed to the teaching-learning process, to research development, and to the organization and leadership of three editions of the International Congress on the Didactics of the English Language. She has written some scientific articles, book chapters and two books directed to improve higher educational processes in Cuba and Ecuador.

Egypt

Dr. Abeer Salem is Lecturer and Program Leader at the Modern Sciences and Arts University in Egypt. She is an experienced researcher, program developer, and educator. She has experience in the fields of international development, intercultural communication, education, sustainability, and management. She has served as principal investigator on several research studies. She has experience overseeing programs in adolescent girls’ well-being, early childhood development, health, education, and civil society. She has written book chapters on sustainability, development, leadership, communication, indigenous entrepreneurship, indigenous learning, and informal learning.

Dr. Hanan Gouda is Dean of the Arab Institute for Leadership Development at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. She is an Associate Professor in the College of Management & Technology. She is an advisor to the Minister of Education in Egypt for her deep knowledge of strategic and economic planning in the public sector. During her stay in France for seven years for a scholarship to earn her Ph.D. in inter-cultural Management from the University of Aix en Provence, she worked as ATER (temporary attaché for instruction and research) Department of ABTHIS-UFR/ERLAOS Aix en Provence University France and as an Educational international assistant at Department of International Negotiation. Her publications focus on behavioral sciences covering various fields such as leadership, training in the workplace, the impact of conflicts in the institutions, Generation Y, intercultural management, internationalization, youth and women empowerment.

Georgia

Prof. Dr. Iza Gigauri is based at St. Andrew the First-Called Georgian University. She received her Ph.D. in Business Administration (Summa Cum Laude) from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Georgia. She holds an MBA from Business School Netherlands (The Netherlands) and an MBA from American University for Humanities (Georgia). She is a graduate of Ilia State University (Georgia) and Ruhr-University Bochum (Germany). She delivers lectures and teaches seminars at all three levels of higher education. Her research interests include corporate responsibility, marketing, sustainability, social entrepreneurship, HRM, and leadership. She is an expert, opponent, and supervisor of doctoral dissertations and Master’s theses. She is a scholar of International Foundations (EU Fellowship for Georgian Researchers, Kirkland Research Scholarship, DAAD, NFP Nuffic, East-West Management Institute, Erasmus Mundus). She writes and presents on issues of CSR, Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, Marketing. She has published over 70 scientific papers, peer-reviewed conference papers, books, and book chapters. She is a scientific committee member at international conferences, a guest editor, an editorial board member or a reviewer at international journals within Emerald, Springer, MDPI, IGI Global, Frontiers, Taylor & Francis, and Inderscience.

Greece

Dr. Eugenie A. Panitsides is a faculty member at the Hellenic Open University in Greece. She has served at several higher education and research institutions in teaching and research posts in the fields of education policy and lifelong learning. She sits on numerous reviewer and editorial boards in the UK, USA, and Greece. Dr. Panitsides research interests include e-learning and learning schemata in higher education curricula.

Hungary (Advisor – European Union)

Dr. András Szűcs

Dr. András Szűcs is the former CEO of the European Distance and E-Learning Network in the United Kingdom (EDEN). He is the former Head of the Center for Learning Innovation at Budapest University. He is skilled in EU policies and projects, innovation management, research design, llearning management, and educational technology. He has experience working in multicultural environments (English, German, French, and Russian proficiency).

India

Dr. Nandita Mishra is Associate Professor of Accounting and Finance at Amity University Uttar Pradesh, India, and ​she is ​Ambassador to the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) London. She was awarded the most innovative faculty in 2019 by the Center for Education Growth and Research. She is a cost and management accountant by profession with a doctorate in corporate governance. She is also a board member in ICAI’s Sustainability Reporting Standard Board. She also tutors Ph.D. scholars ​and​ ​Master’s degree ​students​. Her current research focus is on education initiatives to make future ​accountants, ​sustainable development, and ​value creation.

Dr. Madasu Bhaskara Rao is Associate Professor in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behaviour at the ICFAI Business School (IBS), a constituent of the Icfai Foundation for Higher Education (IFHE), Hyderabad. Currently, Dr. Rao is the Coordinator for ICFAI Staff College and for Accreditations and Rankings for IFHE. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Management from the University of Hyderabad. In addition, he holds Post Graduate Diploma in Statistical Quality Control and Operations Research from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata; Post Graduate Diploma in Training & Development from the Indian Society for Training and Development, New Delhi; Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management from the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) and Bachelor of Engineering from Andhra University, Vizag.

Dr. Damini Saini is Assistant Professor in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior at the Indian Institute of Management, Raipur (IIMR). Dr. Saini holds a Ph.D. degree in HRM/OB from Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi. She has also been awarded UGC’s Junior and Senior Research Fellowship. Her scholarly interests include leadership, the significance of ethical education in management, and research in higher education.

Dr Anand Agrawal is Vice-Chancellor of the Chandigarh University, India. In his present position and previous leadership positions of President (Rector) of BlueCrest University College, Ghana, ProgramDirector and Deanships in multiple institutions of repute in different countries, he established a teaching and learning centre, revamped teaching practices, and trained faculty members. He is an advocate for promoting effective teaching and learning using constructivism and experiential student-centred methods. Dr Agrawal has taught in Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD level degree programs, graduate courses, and executive programs.

Iraq

Dr. Dara Abdulla Qadir Al-Banna is Head of the Nursing Department in the Faculty of Nursing at Tishk International University, Iraq and a lecturer at Hawler Medical University, Iraq. He is an editorial board member and reviewer in several national and international scientific journals. He actively works in quality management and accreditation for nursing programs. He has a Ph.D. degree in Adult Nursing (Stroke Rehabilitation) from Hawler Medical University.

Dr. Samira T. Saeed works at the Quality Assurance and Accreditation office at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kurdistan Region-Iraq. She is a Ph.D. holder from Newcastle University, UK in Theoretical Linguistics. She acted as the Director of Quality Assurance at Tishk International University, Kurdistan Region, Iraq during 2017-2021. She has also served as the Director of Quality Assurance and Accreditation at Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kurdistan Region-Iraq during 2016-2017. During her role as Director of Quality Assurance, she has contributed to the establishment of quality assurance systems in Kurdistan’s higher education institutions. Her research interests include issues of Higher Education, Quality Assurance, Universities Ranking, service-learning, Theoretical Linguistics, Syntactic-Semantic Analysis of Various Grammatical Categories, and Linguistic Typology. She has also served as reviewer for many journals, and the author of several articles, and chapters. She has been involved in a variety of joint projects relating to these topics, and this inspires her to continue contributing to these topics in the future.

Kosovo

Dr. Arlinda Beka is Assistant Professor of Early Childhood and Preschool Programs at the Faculty of Education, University of Pristina. She has been involved in early childhood curriculum development, early childhood development standards, education research and education policies related to recent major developments of education in Kosovo. Dr. Beka is a part of the UNESCO network for Education for Sustainable Development. Through her work to embed principles and pedagogies associated with ESD, Dr. Beka has examined the related issues of sustainability of the individual selves of both teachers and learners, collaborating in a qualitative study with partners from Europe, USA, Asia and Africa. Dr. Beka was a professional adviser to the minister of education (2018-19). Dr. Beka worked at James Madison University, USA, (2019-2020), through the Fulbright program. Her focus during this period was on the creation of instruments to assess the needs, difficulties, and talents of young children from birth through 6 years of age.

Malaysia

Professor Beena Giridharan is the Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor at Curtin University, Malaysia. In her role, she reports to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, and provides academic, financial, strategic, and administrative leadership to Curtin Malaysia, with a particular focus on academic operational efficiency. Her research interests include vocabulary acquisition in ESL, educational administration and leadership; higher education practices, transnational education (TNE), and ethnolinguistic studies in indigenous communities.

Dr. Chu Shi Wei is an Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham Malaysia. She teaches courses pertaining to identifying and understanding special educational needs, understanding learners and learning, responding mindfully to challenging behavior and researching special and inclusive education. She is the Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) in the School of Education, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on the inclusion of employees with disabilities in the workplace and teaching and learning in higher education.

Mauritius

Dr. Fareeda Khodabocus has over 25 years of working at the University of Mauritius (UoM). She did her first degree in Sugar Technology in 1985, pursued her Masters in Quality Assurance at the University of Birmingham in the UK in 1992, and completed her Ph.D. in Total Quality Management (TQM) with partial attachment with Universities and Industries of Birmingham and Coventry in the UK in 2000. In parallel, she has also been Assessor and Lead Assessor for the Mauritian National Quality Award (MNQA) for 15 years, the process was modeled on the Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award (MBQA) Framework of the US. The core of her teaching and research has been on Integrated Quality Management Standards and System, self-assessment, benchmarking, and TQM focused on industry-based case studies. She completed a three-year funded project entitled benchmarking for Continuous improvement in Higher Education in 2009, comparing Quality Assurance Best Practices between Industry and Higher Education, using the MBQA as the baseline for the study. She shifted to Quality Assurance in Higher Education when she joined the post of Director of Quality Assurance at the University of Mauritius in 2011. She also participated in the CHET Higher Education Research Advocacy Network in Africa (HERANA) project (2011-2016), which benchmarked the UoM with eight (8) Flagship Sub Saharan African Universities. Her current role is to provide leadership for Quality Assurance and its enhancement in Teaching and Learning across the University.

Mexico

Dr. Martha Elena Núñez López is Associate Professor and Director of the Academic Department of Architecture for the South Region at Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico. Her Ph.D. dissertation at Birmingham City University, UK is titled, “Supporting Mexico’s Sustainable Development Through Exploring Innovative Approaches to the Product Design Curriculum in Higher Education”. Her interests include creating a global networking and multidisciplinary collaboration in Mexico for academic research, innovation, and publishing. She was shortlisted three times at the QS-Stars Reimagine Education Awards, U.S. (2015-2017) and she serves as a judge for these Awards (2016 – present). She has experience leading educational innovation projects, such as NOVUS (2016-2017 and 2019-2020), that received funding (approximately 14,000 dollars in total).

Morocco

Professor Nour El Houda Chaoui is Professor of Computer Science at Sidi Mohamed Ben Abedellah University (USMBA), in National School of Engineers (ENSAF) – Fez – Morocco. She is a former Professor of Computer Science at Ibn Zohr University in the National School of Engineers (ENSA)- Agadir. She is an expert in the Governance of Information Systems and Quality Assurance. Throughout her university career, she supervised many projects in governance, teaching, scientific research, and innovation. She is affiliated with the Artificial Intelligence, Data Sciences, and Emerging Systems Laboratory. Her current research interests include machine and deep learning, and big data analytics.

Professor Habiba Chaoui, PhD in Computer Science & Automatic, is Director of Studies at Ibn Tofail University (UIT), Higher School of Technology (Ecole Supérieure de Technologie) of  Kénitra, Morocco. Pr. Chaoui is Head of the “Information Systems Security” Master, Head of MUS “Mobile Technologies and Security”, member of the” Advanced Systems Engineering laboratory” and she was Head of “IT, Logistics and Mathematics” Department and Head of the “Data Analysis and Information Security” Research Team at Ibn Tofail University (UIT), National School of Applied Sciences (ENSA), of Kénitra, Morocco.  She is an associate member of the “Systems Engineering Laboratory (LGS)” at the Sultan Moulay Slimane University (USMS) of Beni Mellal, Morocco. Pr. Chaoui was Associate Professor in Computer Science and coordinator of the “Computer Science” program at Cadi Ayyad University, National School of Applied Sciences of Marrakech, Morocco.

Nepal

Dr. Hari C. Kamali is an Associate Professor of (English) Education at Far Western University, Nepal. He has been teaching university courses on English Education in particular and Education in general for about two decades. He has presented papers in different international forums and published in international journals like Technicum Social Sciences, International Journal of English Language Teaching, International Journal of History and Philosophical Research, etc. He is also serving as a Member of the Editorial Board for the two international journals—International Research Journal of Science, Technology, Education and Management, and Qubaham Academic Journal. He has introduced the “deconstructionist role ” of a teacher through his Ph.D. project concerning the study of the Bhagavadgita in relation to post-method pedagogy guided by deconstructive reading. At present, he is working on deconstructive pedagogy and postmodern spirituality in order to develop some guidelines to promote sustainable peace in the world.

The Netherlands

Dr. Paul Wabike is a lecturer in business and management studies at Fontys International Business School (FIBS), Venlo, The Netherlands. Paul specializes in the role of higher education in society development and conducts research on university–community engagement. At FIBS, Paul works with students on social enterprises and develops programs that bring together both businesses and charitable organizations to think of ways of contributing to society both economically and environmentally.

Ms. Inge Rozendal is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Global Creative Business at the University of Applied Sciences in The Netherlands, where she teaches online marketing communication. Her expertise lies in curriculum and course development and assessment. She is the chair of the assessment committee that oversees all assessment procedures for multiple programs.

Oceania

Dr. Chamila Subasinghe is a principal Fulbright fellow and a Senior Fellow of Higher Education Agency UK (SFHEA) who invested nearly two decades of his higher education tenure to investigate and integrate micro-human efforts with micro-credentialing. He further explores Local Resilience Building based Design Activism through learning and teaching innovation to address latent self-sufficiency issues in interdisciplinary design education. His local resilience-building projects in the Indo-Pacific region build human instrumentation as a social innovation tool to negotiate architectural craft via tacit knowledge acknowledged approaches.

Pakistan

Dr. Sarwat Nauman is HoD of the Education Department at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), Karachi. Our department offers B.Ed, MBA-Education Management, MPhil in Education, and Ph.D. in Education programs. She has a Masters in English Literature and a MPhil and Ph.D. in the domain of higher education. She completed her Ph.D. in Education with a focus on business internships as an experiential learning pedagogy in higher education institutions. She has been associated with teaching at the higher education level since 2004 when she first joined DHA Degree College for Girls to teach English to the intermediate, bachelors, and masters students. In 2010, she joined The Institute of Business Management to teach business communication courses to BBA and MBA students. She has broad experience teaching academic English, communication, and education courses. She is the Chief Editor of the Journal of Education and Educational Development.

Professor Mirela Panait is a Professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti (Romania). She is also a scientific researcher at the Institute of National Economy from the Romanian Academy. Her work experience derives from and includes teaching courses and seminaries; research activities; participating in scientific conferences. Mr. Majid Ali is currently serving at the University of Hertfordshire (hosted by Global Academic Foundation) in Cairo, Egypt as a Lecturer of Clinical Pharmacy. He graduated with MSc in Clinical Pharmacy from University College London, UK, and started his career as a researcher and has been a project coordinator for developing, implementing and evaluating diabetes pharmaceutical service in a community pharmacy setting in the UK. He was associated with the School of Pharmacy, University of Hertfordshire, UK for eight years. He is the winner of several academic awards for his teaching skills including the Vice-Chancellor Tutor of the Year, and the Faculty Excellence Award in Blended Learning in 2012. Dr. Mojca Kukanja Gabrijelčič is an Associate Professor of Social Sciences at the University of Primorska. In the field of research, she is mainly concerned with the development of didactics; studies the design of curricula and teaching materials for the social sciences and alternative didactic strategies for teaching in higher education. In addition to didactics, her long-term research is directed towards gifted and talented students, identifying gifted students in primary school, in history classes and discovering gifted children in preschool, developing didactic strategies for working with gifted and talented children.

Dr. Martina Jordaan is the Head of Community-based Research and Postgraduate Studies at the Mamelodi campus of the University of Pretoria, South Africa. She was previously a senior lector in the Faculty Engineering, Built Environment and IT at the University of Pretoria, responsible for the compulsory Community Engagement Module.

Dr. Sweta Patnaik is a Lecturer in the Department of Clothing & Textile Technology, Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the Bellville Campus of Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Her additional responsibilities include supervising Master’s students, serving as a teaching and learning coordinator and curriculum officer. Dr. Marita Cronqvist

Dr. Marita Cronqvist is a Docent of Pedagogical Work and has worked at the University of Borås since 2008. Her research areas are primarily future teachers’ professional ethics and how students learn to take ethical responsibility in education. A didactic tool, Didetik, which draws attention to the ethical dimensions of teaching, has been developed based on research. The development of ethical leadership is investigated by combining didactics and digital tools in students’ videopapers (reflections on recorded teaching). The research is largely conducted in the field of teacher training.

Dr. Serpil Meri-Yilan is Assistant Professor of Languages in the School of Foreign Languages in the Department of Interpretation and Translation at AICU, Turkey. Dr. Meri-Yilan is currently working on the humanization of English language teaching through computer-assisted language learning and ICT tools. Dr. Meri-Yilan research interests include social inclusion and in/justice at disadvantaged regions, digital storytelling, and project-based learning.

Dr. Angel Pazurek is a Senior Lecturer and researcher in Learning Technologies at the University of Minnesota, USA. She leads the Learning Technologies undergraduate minor program and teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses. Her scholarship focuses on critical digital pedagogy and learning design in adult and higher education contexts. Professor Michael T. Miller is Professor of Higher Education at the University of Arkansas, USA, where he previously served as dean of the College of Education and Health Professions. He previously was a department chair and associate dean at two different universities and also holds faculty appointments in public policy and adult and lifelong learning. Dr. Audrey F. Falk is an Associate Professor at Merrimack College, located in North Andover, Massachusetts, USA, in the Winston School of Education and Social Policy. She is Chair of the Department of Applied Human Development and Community Studies and Director of the Community Engagement Program. Dr. Falk has served on the editorial board of The Journal of Special Education since 2010.  She received the Service-Learning Faculty Award from the Maryland Campus Compact that same year. Professor Barbara Cozza is the Chairperson and Professor in the Department of Administrative and Instructional Leadership at St. John’s University. Dr. Cozza’s research targets educational reform issues in the areas of leadership, curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Some research topics that Dr. Cozza is exploring are leadership coaching, women in leadership, multi-age teaching and learning in developing and developed countries, and transforming educational systems and leadership. Dr. Cozza writes numerous books on international and national topics for Pk-16 systems and presents at global conferences. Dr. Cozza applies qualitative and mixed design methods in her research. She is a senior editor for The Journal of Applied Research in Higher Education and a board member for the International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association (HETL). Dr. Cozza mentors doctorate students in the Ed.D. programs and teaches in the SBL/SDL programs. Dr. Cozza has been involved with accreditation process for higher education as a SPA reviewer, preparing accreditation agendas, and reviewed as a state program evaluator.

Dr. Jennifer Miles is Associate Professor of Higher Education Leadership in the Center for Education at Widener University. Dr. Miles earned both her Ed.D. and M.A. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama. She received a B.S. in Communication from Florida State University. Dr. Miles conducts research in the areas of student self-governance and leadership and explores the perceptions and observations of undergraduate student leaders. Dr. Miles has extensive experience as a practitioner in higher education, including serving as a Vice President for Student Affairs and as a Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
