An International Survey

Futures of Education

Introduction

This survey is conducted in support of UNESCO’s Futures of Education initiative. The data gathered from this survey will be used to create a written report by the International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association. This report will be submitted to The UNESCO International Commission on the Futures of Education to help guide them in identifying and addressing the key challenges and opportunities for the futures of education – a forward-looking vision of what education and learning might yet become. For more details on the UNESCO initiative, see UNESCO – Futures of Education and How to Contribute.

Purpose

The purpose of this exploratory survey is to get a high-level sense of the possible futures of higher education and how higher education might help shape the future of the planet. The survey is structured in such a way to get a broad sense of what educators and students think about the future possibilities of higher education. The survey is not intended to make predictions or to delve into all the nuances, complexities, or interrelationships of possible future scenarios, but rather to provide some insight into what educators and students think about the future of higher education.

The results of the survey will help educators, leaders, and policy-makers reimagine how higher education can shape the world in an age driven by increased levels of complexity, uncertainty, and risk. With recent world events, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, refugee crisis, and climate change, higher education will likely undergo significant change in the coming decades. To help the global higher education community better understand the future higher education landscape, HETL would be grateful if you would take ten (10) minutes to complete this survey. No identifying personal data will be collected by this survey.
